Rattle in the Instrument Panel, and drivers side arm rest adjustment.
Dealer had to order a new drivers arm rest, the problem is the time it takes to get the parts from England. The overall ride, comfort, and attention to detail is excellent. The Quality of leather along with the rest of the interior is first notch. The fit and finish is also a notch above the American cars I have purchased in the past. The single one thing I do not like is the wind noise coming from the left side A post area, where the IP meets the door. It sounds like the door is ajar, but the Dealer said it is the trait for this vehicle and was not fixed, when I took it in for service.
I just bought a 2004 Discovery SE7 last month. Despite of all the negative things I heard about this vehicle, I still went out there and bought it. The main thing that attracted me about the Discovery is the uniqueness of it's shape and the safari look. You don't see too many Discovery in New York. It's not common shape like the explorer,4 runners, Yukon and so forth. I can't say much about it mechanically wise because I only have 1000 miles on it. But I have to say some of the things that makes me wonder as to why certain things like the step in the rear bumper is sticking out. If you live in New York, when parking, people here don't stop until they actually hear or feel the other car's bumper. I also had a lamp installed in the front between my grille bar. That too is sticking out. Isn't the grille bar or they call mine the A bar suppose to protect the front of the vehicle from getting hit or damage? The lamps are sticking out in between the two bars. Other things like the instrument inside are too small, arm rest gets in the way, back passenger is hard to get in, noisiness of the engine, very heavy in gas... In spite of all the things I mentioned, I have to tell you, I still love it. It's fun to drive it. Maybe it's still new, don't know. Things that I mentioned, I can overlook, but things are going wrong mechanically, that when I will get upset and disappoint me a lot. I'm keeping my fingers cross. Hopefully they've corrected all the things that went wrong in the past by 2004 especially during the early 1900's. My question is this. Do you think it's worth purchasing an extended warranty for $2,800.00 up to 7 years/85,000 miles? I'd appreciate a feedback from someone out there? Email me at rayserr@aol.com.
Purchase the extended warranty. Near the last 10,000 miles of the term, take it in and have the service dept look for any potential problems, and fix them. That $2800 now is pennies compared to a repair bill at 90,000 miles. PS, I drive a 1997 disco and am looking to purchase a 2003 or 2004 next month. You'll love the vehicle.
