2000 Land Rover Discovery II review from North America
"Nice car, rotten service"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Remote fuel cover would not open. Rear door sag. Front power seat does not operate in one direction. Thermostat failed. Traction control sensor reported as bad when it wasn't.
General comments?
All in all I have been happy with the car. The biggest complaints that I have are with the service provided by the dealerships. Within 6 months the front power seat began to act up and this was reported to the dealer 3 times and each time the problem was not corrected. We paid for scheduled maintenance and when the matenance period ended we continued to have the car serviced by Land Rover, at two different dealerships. Recently the car began to have serious problems and we were forced to take the car to an independent Land Rover reapair shop. You can imagine my surprise when he pulled a sparl plug and it was burned nearly to the porcelain. In his opinion the spark plugs could not have been changed in at least 2 years, this in spite of 2 paid maintenance visits to Land Rover. Ended up with $500.00+ in repairs as plug wires and coil were damaged. What exactly did Land Rover charge me for?
In a separate incident a warning light related to traction control came on, and traction control no longer functioned. The Land Rover dealership that i took the car too quoted me $1300.00 to reaplce a "bad sensor". I declined and after doing some research on the Internt I discovered that the sensors can becoame dirty in winter driving conditions. I took the car to a car wash and blasted the undercarriage and wheel wells. Two years later and I have never had a problem.
