2000 Land Rover Discovery TD5 review from Australia and New Zealand
"A comfortable, economical off roader with class"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Turbo Intake hose delaminated - deealer replaced it for $150.
Air bag harness needed replacing - dealer did it under warranty.
General comments?
This car is very comfortable, quite reliable and has amazing fuel economy. I have driven up to 900 km on a single tank of diesel. I've had 2 small issues which the dealer resolved.
Off Road is where this car really shines. I have done several camping trips and have done river crossings, snow driving and some pretty steep hill climbs. The Disco was never phased. With the low range in, it will climb a building (or so it seems. I wash all the mud off and it is ready for the office on Monday.
Carrying capacity is good. I don't have the seven seater. Friends who do don't seem to use the back seat much except for kids. Big storage area in back and lots of handy storage bins.
I like the upright driving position and my young son likes the view from the back seat.
I'm on the original tyres and only 3 services so far. Cheaper even then my subaru was to run and a lot less fuel. I would by another one.
