2001 Land Rover Discovery review from North America
"I love it - look, feel, ride - but mine is a maintenance nightmare"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Many things.
Fuel flipper not always reliable - Dealer "fixed" a couple of times without success. My boss finally bent it with a key and it has worked ever since.
Front seat passenger airbag - replaced after 2 years and now again - 2 years later (without collision) SRS light is on again with reports from the dealer that it is again the airbag. Why? Now of course the warranty does not cover as it did the first time - $1500.00.
Whistling noise when running that the dealer "fixed". Began whistling again about 2 miles from the dealership.
General comments?
I love this car. Buying it was a dream come true. I would buy another one in a heartbeat... if I had the $$$$ to maintain it! Although I do not mind paying a little extra for good service, my vehicle needs things fixed all of the time despite routine maintenance. The purchase price may fool you, as it is not bad. The first time you have to do something like brakes - be prepared. Land Rover parts appear to run quite a bit more expensive than say, Chevy Suburban parts.
Be prepared for drastic depreciation - 50% in 2 years, when I investigated a possible trade-in. Of course, no way did that happen.
I would love to get another one... but I'm afraid that my husband would divorce me!
