1999 Land Rover Freelander XEi review from UK and Ireland
"Let down badly by it's reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Overheating
Head gasket blew at 45,000 and 47,000 miles resulting in a new engine being fitted at 48,000 miles
Clutch seal leaking
lots of rattles from rear
transmission noisy above 70mph.
General comments?
I purchased a Landrover from new expecting to get a robust, reliable vehicle that was also comfortable. The comfort factor is not too bad apart from being excessively noisy above 70mph, but the reliability is disgraceful. Landrover assistance (who I know well due to frequent engagements) tell me that the newer model is extremely reliable as it has been totally refurbished with new engine, etc. I will not be taking the risk.
