2001 Land Rover Freelander ES review from UK and Ireland
"An unreliable nightmare"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The on-board computer handling the firing of the cylinders has persistently malfunctioned, requiring the computer to be re-programmed and reset numerous times.
General comments?
The re-programming of the computer had to be done 3 times in the first 3 months of ownership.
Each time the service center failed to correct the fault.
4 months after ownership, it went to a different service center which identified that the computer needed to be completely reset.
Since then it has been better, but, nevertheless, it has failed a further 3 times, most recently while abroad, a mere 2 weeks after being serviced.
As I write, the vehicle is enjoying an extended holiday in Europe long after I have returned home.
Total period of ownership, 14 months; period of time the car has been off the road with service centers, approximately 4 months.
The quality of work performed by the service centers has been very poor.
I agree with other comments about the noise at high speeds.
When it is running, it is a fun, reasonably comfortable car.
But the lack of reliability of this car is a nightmare.
