1999 Land Rover Freelander from Bulgaria - Comments

"Average performance, but please read this - I need an advice!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I'm writing this because when I bought the car I had to change the gasket between the engine and the gear-box, and also the gasket of the oil pan. My request is, if someone can tell me what probably could be the reason for this parts to be changed I'll be very thankful.

General comments?

Otherwise the car runs good for a 7 years old car. The maximum speed that I drive it with is around 150-160 km/h. But it is a little bit noisy. Is this normal? The fuel consumption is: highway - 6.5-7l./100km. and urban - 10-11l./100km. another problem is that I cannot open the back left door. I have no idea why:)

Regarding your comment about the noise, I find it normal at least in the 1999 model. I owned one (diesel) for 4 years and I remember it would hum loudly as soon as the speedometer reached 70 Km/hr. You could hardly have a conversation with someone sitting on the back seat.

My head gasket blew at around 80,000 Km... when they showed me the semi-rotten porous engine you could tell the materials used by Land Rover were of poor quality.

I think that driving it routinely at 100 mph (160 kph) is too fast for this kind of vehicle, and will wear it out prematurely. After all, these utility vehicles were made to be a 4 x 4 operating at low speeds and rpm's, and are not a sports car.
