1955 Land Rover Series 1 review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Full rebuild when I got it.
Reconditioned Solex carburettor.
New Range Rover diffs.
Exhaust manifold.
4 new tyres.
All brake shoes and cylinders.
Rusty holes in chassis.
New rear crossmember.
Heater failed.
Noisy.
New clutch.
Replaced rear propshaft.
Newer Land Rover seats.
First repainted after 43 years!
Lots more I can't remember.
General comments?
I used her to commute to a temporary job 20 miles up the M6, 6 days a week, for 8 weeks. Every day it got me there and back at about 70mph!!
She always attracts attention.
Although costing a ridiculous amount to insure and run, I have only had to be towed home once in three years with a bit of dirt blocking the carb.
There are newer ones on the scrapheap. She'll outlive me!
