1991 Lexus LS400 review from North America
"Excellent car--if you don't mind the repair costs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Throttle position sensor--102000miles.
Power steering pump leaks slowly--unknowingly bought that way.
This causes the alternator to die.
Leaky moon roof--bought that way.
Temperature display is black--bought
that way.
Control arm bushings.
Front seats look worn.
General comments?
My wife and I love the car.
Unfortunately I bought it at a mileage and age where most things start to need attention (14.5 years and 102000miles).
Even at his mileage we are both very impressed with the build quality and would buy another one if we could find one a '98 or newer for a reasonable price. Even in 2005 it is hard to find such quality in new cars.
My favorite things about the car are the ride and quiet. It covers miles effortlessly and is a pleasure to drive long distances--you arrive feeling refreshed.
The rear seat is comfortable, but has almost no foot room.
The trunk is a little on the small size for a car this size--the gas tank is in the trunk and is huge.
The brakes are a little on the wimpy side--not unsafe--just not confidence inspiring.
Using premium fuel is getting a little old. The price difference does add up quickly.
We also don't like the city economy. Highway economy is acceptable.
