2003 Lexus LX470 LX review from North America
"It is an impractical jeep with a phony luxury disguise"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Exhaust rattle shortly after purchase. Needed a new harness from the factory that had a cost of about $800.
Thin, rough leather. The seats aren't comfortable compared to new LX470's because of the stiffness of the leather after 4 years.
Incompatible tow hitch mount. Toyota used some sort of cast material instead of material which seems to be narrower at the top than at the bottom. No aluminum tow hitches can fit. The spare tire is too close to the hitch mount so steel tow hitches cannot fit.
One of the third row seats no longer snaps in place on the floor. Cause is unknown.
General comments?
It is a pretty nice looking car, especially with chrome factory wheels and dark monotone paint.
The interior is attractive, but uncomfortable.
It has low horsepower, but a nice amount of torque and tows pretty well, if you can get it to attach to a trailer properly.
The ride adjustment could lose at least one setting, and the height adjustment is complicated.
It has off-road technology that will never be used, the price reflects it.
It has very limited space compared to other, cheaper luxury SUV's.
The gas mileage is terrible for a car with so little horsepower.
The third row seat is only capable of seating 2 children or 0 adults (it is recommended for 3 adults).
It is too tall, wide, and high for a luxury car.
The second row seats are limited on leg room, but the middle seat is fantastic compared to other SUV's and has no transmission tunnel.
The dvd system is very complicated.
The Mike Levinson stereo system doesn't sound any better than standard stereo systems in most cars.
The navigation system still lists restaurants that went out of business before I was even born.
