The main problem I have had is the keys
have both busted, and you cannot fix them. I believe this is a re call issue, I am not the only consumer with this issue. Then it costs $ 250 per key get get a new one. Also electrical
problems with the dash and the windows.
Also have had track problems, and brake problems also.
The keys are faulty.
Too many electrical problems.
$250 for ONE key??? Wow...$4 for one key for my Pontiac!...yet no problems. Good luck on that.
EBay is a wonderful source for you Lexus, e.g., keys, and other miscellaneous items and parts, at very affordable prices. I bought a set of keyless key fobs and programed them myself. It took some research on the web to find the process in which to program the keys, but you can do it your self and save big buck, trust me.
http://www.lexus-parts.com is the only way to go for cheap new lexus parts. they had a promotion on ebay and I got a precut replacement master key for $99usd.
Hi, we replace broken remote shells for Lexus and Toyota vehicles. We sell new after-market shells that come with a LIFETIME Warranty against breakage, the cost is about $75.00 for the repair and key cutting. Feel free to browse our website at www.a-1mobilelockandkey.com or email us with any questions at Bob@a-1mobilelockandkey.com.
Thanks Rob.
Serious electrical problems with my Lexus RX300 also. Used my inheritance money to pay cash for what I thought would be a car to last forever. Purchased a 1999 with 93000 miles on it for 15K out the door. Since then (under 2 years and under 7 thousand miles) I have replaced exhaust, O2 sensors (TWO) and now my dash is frozen. Radio is stuck on one station, cannot turn it off, or adjust the volume. Nor can I use heat, AC, CD player, BASICALLY ANYTHING ON THE BLUE SCREEN. Well, the clock works. Took it to Lexus, they spent an hour on it at no charge, then told me it was definately an electrical problem, not a computer problem, and I would have to leave it for a day so they could trace it. AT $89 AN HOUR. Now, I notice that lots of these cars have electrical problems, so I suspect they know EXACTLY what and where the problem lies, but they are acting like they are just baffled.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, WHAT IS THE GIST OF MY ELECTRICAL PROBLEM LIKELY TO BE? I REFUSE TO PUT HUNDREDS, OR THOUSANDS MORE INTO IT, AND JUST DON'T BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE. No other mechanics will even bother to try to trace the problem, so I feel they have me over a barrel.
Electrical problems are not common on the RX... its the transmission that has problems. I have never heard of a dash freezing up. Sounds odd.
Luckily, I have had no transmission problems with my 99 RX300, but when I searched the net for electrical problems on this model, I did find some entries, in less than a couple minutes of searching. Unfortunately they did not go into any details about the source of the problem. The dash behind the steering wheel is fine, its the console part that everything is frozen on. The heat is permanently on (wherever it was last set, which was VERY low because I froze all winter in it), the radio - permanently on and cannot be changed or offed, as is everything accessed by buttons or knobs on the center console. I was considering trading BEFORE this happened, for something small with considerable gas mileage, but now I'm offered half of the trade in value for it, yet if I hand it over to the dealer to repair, I may face days worth of diagnosing where the short is, and thousands of dollars. Winter with minimal heat was one thing, but summer with only heat and no A/C is just not an option! Feeling seriously stuck...
My 2001 RX300 seems to have a mind of its own. After a new battery and a new alternator it only starts after I charge the battery. There is an electrical draw from somewhere and no one can find it. I love the vehicle, but I can't understand where the problem is coming from.
My 2000 shifts out fine, but I`ve heard a few complaints about $4000- transmission jobs.
I have had my 2000 Lexus RX300 for 1 year now. Got it with 132k miles on it. So far I had to replace O2 sensors and charcoal canister. No other problems at all.
It has 156k miles now and is running great. This is the best car I have ever had!!!
