Minor cosmetics... but it's a '92.
I bought this car because of the engine. It's extremely fast and has a lot of potential, even at +100k miles.
Handling is good, but I don't push it since I know it's heavy.
Interior noise is quiet and the sound system rocks.
This engine is so smooth, I floor it, go to +100mph and the engine sounds even smoother.
Nice going!!! I have the same year SC400 love it. Smoothness is there as you said I am sitting and 110K and its running fine.
I have the same year and model-almost 150k miles and she still runs like a champ-as the other 2 people stated, no major mechanical malfunctions-i don't think I will ever buy another car other than a lexus!!!
My SC 400 has 222,500 km on it and hasn't required a bit of repair, Lexus has done it all with the comprehensive maintenance program, the driver seat needs a little repair as it is worn on the exterior side (getting in and out), love the car, love the power.
I just bought a 92 SC400 with 76,000 miles for $8600. Do you think that was a fair price? It was owned buy a rich older couple who only drove it on weekends. It just had the a/c replaced as well as the brakes. Please let me know.
We just bought a 1992 SC400 with 105k miles. The car is an absolute gem! I am amazed how advanced it was for its time. It has features that you are just seeing in today's cars. The way it rides, handles and runs, it feels like the car is still in its "break in" period!
Does anyone know when the key-less entry button is pressed if its suppose to make a beeping noise? The key-less entry works, but I never know weather I've locked or un-locked the car.
I just bought a '92 SC400 cheap because the previous owner did not want to deal with the A/C system short in the wiring harness. Lexus ran a new wire from the compressor to the fuse panel - back in business. Now I need to replace the passenger side speaker (larger one) - does anyone have any ideas on where to locate replacement speakers for this model/year?
1992 SC400. 220,000 miles. Nice car for its year. Expensive to maintain. Not sure how much longer to keep.
I bought a car over 6 months ago. put over 15k miles already and right now have 150k miles. runs perfectly, no noise, no leaks. how many cars you can find from 1992 with 150k miles that would drive so awesome.
Great comfort, fast, and not so bad on gas on the highway. I make 25 miles a gallon easy on a highway around 20 miles in a city.
If transmission would be manual that would be the best car. I still think it is more luxurious car than a sport car, but reliable and great car.
My lexus is a '92 with 290,000 clicks and it still had amazing power!!! Only got one thing replaced... the alternator..other than that it's treated me well.
I bought a 1992 SC off e bay sight unseen. I had a friend check the car out at it's location. He assured me it was a 6 or 7 out of 10. By the time it was driven to my house 2k miles away it needed brakes, rear main seal, front struts, and now with the weather getting warm the ac doesn't work. I already have over $2k in it and am not done yet it seems. Do I look forward to my 90 mile commute drive each way once a week YES. Will I buy another Lexus Yes, but a bit newer and probably a GS 400 and I will personally check it out. Good Luck Look before you leap.
P.S. Want to buy a 1992 SC 400 with lots of work done?
Smooth move on the sight unseen purchase.
I have a 1992 sc400 with over 250k+. I've had it since 2000 and the only real repair I've done to it was a paint job, regular P.M., a drive shaft, and I've had to replace the whole mufflers system.
I have a 92 sc400 with 274291 miles on it and have spent 5000 dollars in repairs, however the car was givin to me and all my money has been in mods. this car still has incredible power and great handling. I am currently looking for a new climate control since the screen no longer works. all in all the mechanical features of this car are great, just seems like the interior is cheaply made and the electronics have all pretty much failed. the a/c needs replacement and I bet everyone has that damned crack in the drivers door panel. all in all a good car.
Bought the car over a year ago and have put about 10,000 miles on it brining it to almost 58,000. The car had about 47,000 when I bought it in March of 2005. Car was in my neighbors garage in Malibu. The home was a second home so the car was only driven when he was out here. I bought the car for $10,000 and had it serviced when I got it which was about $2,000. I had all belts and hoses replaced because the car sat so much. The car looks great in pearl white with chrome rims and the spoiler. Sound system is amazing for a 92. Sounds almost as good as the Mark Levision in my LS430, just not as clear. All options were on the car including the cell phone or as my son calls it the brick. My wife told me not to buy an old Lexus and it now turns out she has put most the miles on it. I never was a Lexus fan until I bought my wife a 1998 GS400. Always drove Mercedes or BMW. My wife still drives her GS400 with 95,000 miles it runs like new. I told her she can get the new GS430 but she loves the classy lines of the older GS. I've only had all 3 of my Lexus in for routine maintenance, the cars have never left me stranded. Can't wait for the LS460 in October.
