I just bought a SC400. Just wondering what I should be looking out for. I paid $4000 (is that good or bad). I absolutely love how it drives and looks, but it has 166,000 miles (is this to much). How many miles have others been getting out of the original car. No replacements.
Not that it is a big deal, but what have you been getting for gas mileage?
$4000 seems fair. I paid $9000 for mine last june, but it only had 70,000miles. I've heard there engines go for about 250,000miles.I get around 20mpg average which isn't bad for such a heavy car with a V-8. I'm only 16 so I got lucky with this car. My parents have driven lexus since they came out back in 90' and have had nothing, but the best of luck. They have now owned around 7 lexus and have loved them all. They still have their 90' LS400 which has 192,000miles and just keeps pushing on. The LS400 has the same motor as the SC400 so I'm guessing theyll last about the same time. Good luck and keep sticking with lexus youll love them.
What octane level is everyone using. Does it really matter if I use regular unleaded.
I would recommend 91 and up. I've put premium in since I first bought the car. The previous owner had all reciepts from gas and they also were all 91 and up. The car has 192000 miles on it and still runs like new.
I bought my Lexus 1992 SC400 (production date 11/91) in June of 2005, It has 241,000 miles on it and runs outstanding. I am a V-8 Fan and loved Mustangs until I bought this car (first test drove it 5 days before) from a friend that owns a large style muffler and mechanic shop. The car is in superb condition and I mean perfect, nearly that is. I paid $6300 for it, but free maintenance came withe the deal, well he is a friend so that is a bonus, new tires electronic tranny was fixed and window regulators were done other than that nothing has ever happened to the car, oh, well an A/C hose did leak before I bought it and was repaired while I was buying it. Nothing has ever been replaced, waterpump, bushings, exhaust, (excluding brake pads only) struts, Springs I can't even list what else I Know for sure, The alternator Is still Original, well hoses, any car fan keeps those up along with belts... OK now I bought the jewel, within 5 days I had the dual pipes upped to 3 inch crush bent with magnaflow mufflers that tuck better than the stock ones and magnaflow tips, oh my... this baby sounds great, not like a lexus, but like a very powerful V-8 (my favorite motor) four cams and way too many mods are coming. Bone stock at 241,000 mile RWP (rear wheel horse power) was 191 at 5300 rpm, 177 at 6000 rpm redline 216 rwtq at 3100 rpm and 207 at 5000 rpm. Now let me tell you why I say that, it has 1/4 million miles on it, and now a K&N Air filter, dual 3 inch exhaust, synthetic mobile 1 oil and (my own custom extended cool air plastic air flow thingy that goes to the grill, not the engine compartment), now makes (but yuck, lost powerbraking burnouts) to 216 whp at 5400 rpm, and 248 rwtq at 3400 rpm and wait, 202 lbs torque at 4900 RPM! and also At 5900 rpm 198 hp... yeah!... Cams and headers are on the way... I'll let you know... BryanOfTexas@aol.com Love my brutal sounding Lexus!!! Oh yeah cross over pipe, h-pipe whatever it is called is there, and uh, CATS, I don't know what that is!!! (none) Wait almost forgot, gets 10-13 mpg from work to home, from San Antonio, TX to Fort Worth 23.47 70-90 m.p.h MPG and back 22.59 mpg 70-110 m.p.h... Stay off the gas...LOL.
I'm from Australia. Currently about to buy a worked version. 1992 DUB V8 4.0l for around $15,000. This is a bargain; the car with the amount of value in it is worth $20,000+. under 100,000. Very hard to come by.
Depending on the condition on the car, the cost you got was a bargain as well. Have fun, they are an amazing car.
I've got a '92 and have 335,000 on it. Just replaced the starter and need to replace the power steering. It is incredible.
I have a Lexus RX 300 and it has 325000 miles on it, and I have never had a problem. I am looking for an SC. They're great cars. It's all my family drives; we have 4 and every one runs like a beast.
