1986 Lincoln Town Car review from North America

"If this car were a girl, I would marry it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Besides switching brake pads, and an oil filter, nothing.

General comments?

This car belonged to my father.

He drove the car to approximately

150 000 km's. He bought a newer vehicle in 1997, so he gave me the Lincoln.

I drove this car all the time. The only problem I ever had with this gem was the brake shoes. After a very easy, inexpensive repair, this car lasted me 100 000 km's with no major trouble at all.

This car was dripping with luxury.

The seats were amazing. The sheer roominess of the vehicle was incredible.

The sound system (which was stock) was also pristine.

This car floated along the highway as if riding on a cushion of air. The mileage on the highway was also decent.

The only that cost me money was the

in-town driving. The stop and go style of driving, added to the gross weight of the old girl, made the fuel economy a little steep. But worth every cent.

I added a K&N air filter, as well as a free-flowing full exhaust. Most Lincoln owners might cringe at this modification, because it made the noise of my vehicle somewhat "mean" and throaty (which I just loved) but it made a tremendous difference in power. The car felt like it had been choked prior, and now, could breath, thus running stronger.

I found this car to be very fast with acceleration.

However, I test drove a newer 1988 model, and it felt totally different than the 1986 model. The acceleration wasn't anything to what the 86 model had.

I would love to find myself another low-mileage 1986 Lincoln Towncar, and buy this baby once again.

A truly wonderful work of art. Later years I find aren't the same, and any year earlier just isn't the same either.

If you want the best Lincoln Towncar, then get yourself an 86 model.

You won't be disappointed.
