My experience with our 91 Lincoln is very poor. We purchased the Town Car from friends in Miami for $7,200. Before we left to return to Richmond, we had the car checked and serviced.
We only got as far as south Georgia when the first failure happened. The serpentine belt broke and the car had to be towed to the nearest repair dealer. Had to have over $750 in repairs and two
days in a motel.
Finally got to Richmond and had it checked by 'Quality Lincoln Mercury' of Petersburg, Va.. They did a service check with the computer analysis system and made the needed adjustments and
fluids service. A few months later the door lock switch on the passenger side fell into the door. And the air bag light on the dash board lit up. I checked to see what the cost of the air bag
repair would be and it is almost $700. I elected not to fix it.
This week I took it to 'Quality Lincoln Mercury' again and left it to have the switch replaced or repaired. They had to order the part and it will be a few days to fix it. They did loan us a car to
drive.
So far my experience with the Lincoln Town Car has been very bad.

Wish I had never seen this Lincoln.
$7,000.00+ seems like a bit much to pay for that year of used anything, even a Lincoln. My other comment is that if you do buy a used car, you need to have some mechanical abilities. After reading the reviews from 1985 on up, it seems like the best years were from 1986 to 1988/89. Somehow the change from the 5.0L to the newer engine seems to be jinxed. I have a 1985 and the only real bother is the TBI type fuel injection. Trivial things like the power antenna don't get fixed until I get bored enough to go to the wrecking yard, then I fix all the little things that have accumulated.

I have a spec. ordered 1991 Town Car purchased new. It has served us well until now. The JBL radio does not work and the engine does not run right. I suspect the computer is not working properly. I will be looking into it next week.
Until now the car was excellent. I love the ride, the way it handles and it has good economy and power for a large car. I am amazed how well it handles with the handling and tow package combination. I have the 3:42 gear ratio.
When possible I do my own repairs etc.
The only problem I had was with the air bags. Right around the time the air bags were showing age cracks etc. I found another 1991 in the recycle yard with new Firestone airbags with valves, air pump and level sensor. I bought the whole system for $60. Within a year one of the original equipment bags started giving me trouble so I changed the whole system with the parts from the recycle yard. I did use new O ring seals etc. No problems with the air ride system any longer.
I am satisfied with this car. I only wish it would last forever!

How much did it cost to replace the lock switch? I have a '91 and both window switches on the passenger side have either fallen into the door or have been ripped out.
Those are trivial things, a serpentine belt breaking is not that big of a deal, and lock motors on a car that old can be expected. I have replaced all 4 of mine on my 89 Town Car, and all 4 window motors. It's not that big of a deal. And as for the cost of labor, don't take it to the dealer. Independent garages, while still not cheap, are not the cost of the dealer.
