1995 Lincoln Town Car Cartier review from North America

"Trustworthy and cost effective transportation while being in total comfort and safety"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear air suspension air bags formed a small leak last year. Cost was $1,400. (200,000-miles)

EGR Valve air passage ways totally clogged up with carbon- Cleaning $200 (130,000-miles)

Engine prone to carbon build up- have to have a induction flush carbon cleaning done every 50,000-miles. (70,000-miles-first cleaning)

Uses some oil due to valve seals that shrink or crack. Will not get fixed due to cost. $1000. I will just keep pouring in a quart of oil every 750-miles. (Started small oil consuption around 80,000-miles-Steady consumption since 140,000-miles)

3-power window regulators broke. I fixed them myself for about $90.00 each. (First one broke at 7-years of age)

Serpentine belt tensioner started making noise when cold. Replaced myself for $100 (180,000-miles)

Transmission shudders around 35-mph or when going into overdrive. Have to have it serviced every 30,000-miles and add 2-ounces of friction modifier to the new fluid each time- have to drain the torque converter each time as well. (First shudder at 80,000-miles)

Roof headliner has started to peel down above the rear glass. Caused from driving with rear windows down and wind turbulence. Fixed my self with small binder clips. I caught it before it had peeled half an inch. (180,000-miles)

Passenger side exhaust pipe has recently worn a small hole in it. Hole is the size of breath tick tack. Shop fixed for $20.00. (230,000-miles)

Driver's side seat leather is cracking a bit (Currently starting)

General comments?

These cars are super excellent cars that last for the long haul.

I did a compression test on my engine at 240,000-miles and the compression is still very high.

This car has never had an alignment or any front end work at all. The tires wear evenly and the car still drives like new with almost a quarter of a million miles on it.

The car has never broke down on us and has always started every time.

Lots of room inside of the car.

Huge trunk.

Gas mileage is still averaging at 22mpg. Half city half highway.

Not one leak of any type. The bottom of the engine and transmission still look new. The garage floor is clean enough to eat off of, minus the dirt.

We plan to drive the car to 300,000-miles and get a new town car due to our age. We take a lot of long trips in the summer and we feel that 300,000-miles is a good point to replace the car. We do plan to keep our 1995 as a spare back up car however.
