1979 Lincoln Town Car 4 Door review from North America
"A Honey for the Money!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Due to the excessive weight of this beast, it eats brakes.
Vinyl Roof was going when I bought it and continues to do so, however I've done my best to keep it going long enough so that none of the metal underneath rusts, and it seems that I've succeeded. (Thank you Clear RTV..lol)
General comments?
If you want a fast, superb handling vehicle, this car is not for you.
However, if you've always wanted a car that's as comfortable as a suit at the Ritz, rides like a cloud, and draws smiles from everyone who sees it, then I'd definitly reccomend buying a 79 Lincoln Town Car. My favorite parts of this vehicle are the luxiourious seats and the incredibly spatious interior. I've never been in a car so comfortable. Sure it gets 10mpg, but who cares! One does not buy a car like this and worry about the fuel economy, its more of a summer Saturday Night cruiser vehicle anyways.
For those who have never driven a car this big before, please realize that the power steering may surprise you, (it can be steered with one finger), and also that it takes awhile to stop a freight train like this.
Everywhere you go with a 20-Foot Lincoln, people are bound to turn their heads, especially the over 70 crowd.
Don't get me wrong, the 400M is plenty powerful for highway cruising, it just takes awhile to get there. The cruise control is silky smooth, and the C6 Ford auto that this car comes with is bulletproof, just keep up with the fluid changes and it should give you years of trouble free shifting.
Overall, this car has been very reliable and parts for it are dirt cheap anyways. Virtually everything mechanical is available at your local NAPA or an equivilant store.
