1974 Lotus Elite review from North America
"Even gear-heads usually have no idea what it is; cool!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
What remains of the car is still in good condition, but it's mostly stripped.
General comments?
The plus side is that the car in stock form weighs not much more than 2000 lbs, and that includes the 200 lb air conditioner, which can be removed, along with the heavy front seats, etc.
This is a very fun ride lightened up, notwithstanding the mere 140hp motor. It really opens up at about 4000 rpm. It also handles very well, if you can ignore the fiberglass rattle and focus on how the car is actually performing.
The US spec carbs are lean-running Strombergs, so adjust richer for better performance.
The engine is interference, so monitor the timing belt constantly.
