1996 Mazda 626 LX from North America

Summary:

The transmission is awful

Faults:

The transmissions is horrible. It had to be replaced twice. The belts had to be replaced long before they should have been. I have had electrical problems. The check engine engine light comes on and I do not know why. The paint has started to wear.

General Comments:

Very horrible if you want a car that will last a long time. Even though it has lasted 211,000 miles, it was a fight all the way. I wouldn't recommend Mazda.

So you kept a car you didn't like, for 11 years and over 200k miles?

1996 Mazda 626 ES 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

An excellent car, if transmission problems don't occur

Faults:

Transmission is starting to slip.

General Comments:

This car has been passed down to me by my parents when they bought themselves a Hyundai Veracruz. Fortunately my car still has the original transmission and hasn't suffered any problems until now. I guess I could say I am still satisfied with this car since no major problems have occurred up to now. I have to say I am very lucky because I have read numerous reviews and have heard transmissions going out at 40-50 000 miles or approx 60 000 kilometres. All in all it's been a good car and I can't complain since it is an 11 year old car with high mileage. The car is in excellent condition cosmetically. Leather is still intact, paint shines, no rust, sunroof still opens, all power windows work, a/c ice cold, (all electronics work).

Currently I am still debating on whether I should purchase a new mazda3 GT or fix this vehicle up for University.

1996 Mazda 626 LX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

In good shape except aggravating at times

Faults:

My engine light comes and goes. Has been fixed numerous times. Mass air flow sensor was replaced. Right now o.k.

The overdrive off flashes when going up a hill after driving about 80 miles. The engine light will sometimes come on when overdrive off flashes. Around town it seems o.k.

General Comments:

I have had my mazada for 10 years and it pretty much has been reliable although the engine light coming on has been frustrating.

Also, during the last six months, the overdrive off flashing has been a problem. The mechanic said I might need to have transmission rebuilt. I haven't wanted to go into that kind of money.

1996 Mazda 626 LX from North America

Summary:

Runs nice and is very nice looking

Faults:

Transmission has given me trouble on a few occasions, but the car is generally pretty reliable.

General Comments:

It handles well in stop and go traffic, as well as on rough city roads.

The seating is very comfortable, and much roomier than it looks.

I love the spaciousness in the trunk.

It's a very attractive and practical car.

1996 Mazda 626 LX 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Good performer but costly on repairs

Faults:

This car is reliable for the most part, but there are leaks almost every 20 seconds. Oil leaks coolant leaks transmission fluid leaks and everything else. Words of advice, don't ever get your engine washed, if you have manual transmission because it causes a lot of problems with idling and the car revs past 2000 RP-M's before it starts to go. The battery has been replaced and when it was first bought there was very poor steering. The car has been through over 10 repairs in 2 years and all of them have been over $800 each. Id advise that if your buying a Mazda do not buy one older than 5 years. it will be a poor investment because of repairs.

General Comments:

This car is very quick on the accelerator because its the DOHC with manual transmission and its very easy to spin the tires out.

Its handles very well for a mid sized sedan, but the tires feel a bit small for the car because of its weight.

The interior is very well thought out with tons of space and the back seat that goes into the trunk for easy access.

It is a absolutely incredible car on gas, with 750 km to the tank in the city alone!

This car in general though is a good performer, but with respect to the money spent on many repairs, it wouldn't be a very good car for someone who can't afford to spend time fixing it and working the costs off.
