1987 Mazda 626 Super Deluxe review from Australia and New Zealand
"A great car for start off people"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Coolant Leaks (fixed myself)
Oil leaks (At this point attempting to fix problems). Seals have wornout over time, in certain places.
General comments?
A cousin of the Ford TX5 Ghia Turbo 2.0L
which the concept of the this Mazda came from.
A 5 door hatch 2.0l Turbo, electric windows, velour seats.
I'm not sure what turbo goes on these, but know they are small, but still feel the kick in them. Something like a T2 turbo.
When I first got the car everything ran fine. Nothing major has run her down. After a few weeks she started having coolant leaks, which was the ends of the pipes where the clamps where on had worn out, and squirting out coolant, which was easily fixed.
She hasn't had an engine re-con and she has passed her 236000km mark. She feels a bit run down. I have attempted to open the turbo and engine to clean it out bit by bit 3 times already and every time I put the engine and turbo together, she starts up fine which is a good thing. The turbo has had a re-con and no complaints yet from it.
The steering is god, no complaints yet.
Has no signs of rust.
The roofs of these cars, (if not treated properly) tend to fade colour and have white misty crap that covers the colour.
From my experience usually when something goes wrong it's usually just a small thing. example - lights power windows not powering up. (Just loose wires).
Fuel efficiency is good when your foot is not planted onto the floor. I have a 49L tank, which I can get 450km, which is OK I guess. Putting your foot on the ground constant, you won't make 200km out of a tank properly.
I have Koni suspension on the car which gives it a nice feel for the road, when driving. I like the idea of choosing our suspension in the car,'sports' or 'normal' or 'auto'. But you always keep it on sports.
She performs good. She's very clean inside (apart from the cigarette burns on the seats that the previous owner made), and tidy, which I like to keep clean.
I'm installing an intercooler, blow-off valve and a boost controller to give her everything she's got.
For the price I paid, I could of down better I think at the end.
This sort of car is for someone that likes high performance in an ametuer way. Goes hard for what it is, nothing special, but still feel the g-force when the turbo kicks in.
