1993 Mazda 626 ES review from North America
"A reliable blend of sports car/family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Driver side coil spring broke this year. Both were replaced up front.
Front and rear McPherson struts replaced at the same time as coil springs.
Upper ball joints were worn and also replaced at the same time as coil springs.
Routine maintenance such as brake pads replaced front and rear (car has rear disk brakes).
Front tires were worn excessively due to coil spring collapse and replaced at the same time as the coil springs.
General comments?
The V6 is incredibly responsive and easy on the pocketbook being a 2.5L. I have had the opportunity to drive the same model year in a 4 cylinder and it was incredibly underpowered.
The car handles well on curves and is stable at high speeds and is overall a thrill to drive.
The 4 wheel disk brakes stop the car quicker than expected.
Repairs this year were plentiful, but, given the mileage, was expected. I was fortunate not to have to put a dime into repairs for 1 1/2 yrs so in my view, it evens out.
