This car is just a money trap! The transmission failed at 85000 and I had to pay $1400 to put another one from a junk yard. The front and back suspensions really have a bad problem. The car keeps making all kinds of noises while turning. It is not fast even with the 2.5L V6 engine with overdrive, I was beaten by a 1.6L Honda CRX!! I paid about $7000 to buy this car and I ended up paying about $5000 more in 2 years and at last I was not willing to spend any more money so I just sold it. The good news is, you can sell it at a reasonable amount of money unlike ford for example. I guess Mazda still have some of the old good reputation.
I have owned a 626 ES 6 Cl 1997 for 5 years. I bought this vehicle when it was three years old. It had 52,00 miles on it and it has been a wonderful car. I now have 104,000 miles on it and I only had to change the tires and the exhaust system. Two years ago I had a small leak in the radiator that my extended warranty covered. I purchased an extended warranty in case of problems, but I didn't really need it!!! It was well worth what I paid for it. Plus, it is eight years old and finally paid off and still could trade it in for 3000.00 dollars.
My 626 gave me very little problems. you could not even tell the car was running the ride was smooth and so was the idle...untill one day after having some work done to keep the stering wheel from popping when you made a deep turn (i don't know what they did it was somthing to do with an axle the car when you stop at a stop sign and the car is in geer the car shakes. the mechanic sd it needed a tuneup and I took the car to my mazda dealer where after paying for a tune up I was informed that the shake won't go away that 626 somtimes do this. so I now own a 626 that I can't trade and when I stop the car you can see the car shaking...who can fix this or even tell me what needs to be fixed... mym dealer doesn't know.
