1995 Mazda 626 from North America - Comments

"Mazda 626's Are The Worst Cars EVER!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I hate Mazda's with a passion, I'm a college student, I purchased my car from a well known person, for a reasonable and affordable price. However, within the first year I had it...

* the o/d light was flashing

* my starter went bad

* and my transmission blew out.

I took it to a mechanic, they said it was best to fix it when the transmission was no good (when the car left me stranded) I was driving it for almost a year, then it started making a rattling noise, the o/d light was still flashing, and finally the rpm would go up, but nothing happened.. long story short...

Mazda from 1993-1997 are said to all have a bad transmissions.

General comments?

My car came with a nice CD player, rotating air vents, pretty cozy, leather seats, and spacious.

I have invested so much money on this mazda, it wasnt even worth it, I've spent more than what the car was worth.

The TRANSMISSION ALONE was 1,500.00.

I would not recommend any one buy a mazda, unless the transmission is

A) NEW or

B) RE-BUIlT.

You should also add:

3) if the transmission is a manual.

I have a 626, and I adore it with an intense passion. it has never given me any trouble. but it's a newer model than yours was (2001) so maybe they were dumb back in the day.. but I tell you, it's the hottest piece of metal ever.

I had a 1995 Mazda 626 for 10 years, but it required a lot of maintenance. I did have to get the automatic transmission replaced in 2001 after my extended warranty had expired and it cost me $2,000. I had over 175,000 miles on it when I sold it to a used car salesman. I think I would check out a newer model if it had better reviews. I think our 1993 Acura Integra was a better buy and has over 191,000 miles with minimal problems and more power. I personally prefer a 4-door car though so I will read more reviews and see what people like most.

I have owned my mazda for about 3 years now, and I have had no problems aside form normal wear and tear that comes with any car.

I have a 1995 626 ES Standard shift, Though I do not recommend buying any 626 with an automatic as they stuck a ford transmission on it that is utter garbage. Mine Has yet to blow out on me, and I doubt it will.

I get decent gas mileage, the engine can handle high revs, but I am most interested in replacing the current KL03 engine with a KLZE supercharged (It can be done).

I love this car, and I will be very sad if I ever have to get rid of it.

One other note I recommend is that you replace the stock clutch with a centerforce dual friction clutch. Mine has been in my car for 2 years and it still catches strong.

Mazda 626's are the worst car I've ever owned. Recently I haven't had many problems with it, but here is a list of problems that I've had to have fixed.

Transmission x3

Water Pump

Alternator Cable

Starter

Battery x3

unusual fast wear on tires

CV joints x3.

After all these repairs my good deal on what I thought was a nice car turned into a costly investment. I would never buy another Mazda product ever, I don't care if it's a remote control mazda. Oh and the transmission is an on-going problem with the 626, and Mazda will fix it for 500 dollars, or you can buy the part from an auto supply shop for 39.99 and have it installed for 25.00.
