1995 Mazda 626 LX review from North America
"To early to tell"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had a problem with a 1995 Mazda 626 I bought for my daughter that everyone thought was the transmission, but turned out to be the MAF sensor.
The car would not accelerate and shift correctly, and the engine sounded like to quote another poster "it was coming out of the hood"
Being trained as a mechanic I knew a couple things to check: I drained and inspected the transmission fluid and found no signs of trouble like burnt fluid or more particles than normal the next thing was to confirm that there was no slipping and there was none under normal acceleration. Then I said to myself maybe it's an engine problem and having experience with MAF sensors I tested and found the engine would cut out under hard acceleration even with the transmission in neutral. Cleaning the MAF sensor fixed the problem for 18 K miles so far.
Regular transmission fluid changes are important to prevent trouble, and a good thing to try when you have slight trouble I also recommend K&W trans X additive it's not going to fix a toasted transmission, but can help keep small problems in check.
I post this to give some much less expensive things to try before you pay the major bucks to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced.
Jay.
