1986 Mazda B2000 review from North America

Seat was wearing out and had a split near the top.

Parking brake light came on around 200k miles and never went off again.

Timing belt blew apart at 180k miles, taking part of the cover with it, but otherwise no damage. Never replaced cover.

Replaced valve cover gasket three times.

Replaced slave cylinder once.

Replaced muffler once.

Replaced clutch once.

Started consuming 1-qt oil per four or five fuel ups after about 200k miles or so.

By 300k miles, replaced every heater/coolant hose once.

Replaced starter motor at 325k miles.

Reconditioned the a/c at 250k miles.

Utterly reliable. Most reliable vehicle that I will probably ever own. It was essentially maintenance free, and never stranded me anywhere. I listed a lot of things above, but remember those happened over the course of more than 330,000 miles.

Under normal driving, it had a little pep, but not much real power. It pulled great while trailering or hauling a load.

It was super easy on tires. For instance, the original tires weren't replaced until 90k miles, although they still had acceptable tread. The truck only saw four sets of tires while I owned it!

Economy was good early on (30 mpg), but by the time I sold it, it was down to about 24 mpg.

Pretty much all I did was put Pennzoil HD-30 in it. When it started consuming oil excessively, I never changed the oil again. I just kept adding that fresh quart, and periodically changed the filter.
