1989 Mazda B2200 review from North America
"This little truck has kept me completely stress free."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The biggest problem has been a fuel filter that gets dirty and makes the truck cough and stall. But then, I have needed to get a new fuel filter only twice in 18 years.
The next annoying problems has been loud squeaky brakes, when they too get dirty. Blowing them does not always help.
The standard steering is very very stiff and makes
parallel parking a pain.
I had to get a new ignitor in 2006 at maybe 110,000 kilometers. The truck just stopped. No warning of any kind given.
Climbing steep hills with a camper or heavy load is quite slow and I stay in the right lane.
Rims are simply impossible to keep clean.
I have needed a new muffler twice.
And finally, although I don't really consider this a problem with the truck, I needed new tires once, in 2002. Present tires in very good shape.
General comments?
I've owned my truck since 1989 and still think of it as my "new" truck! With all regular maintenance done on time at my terrific Mazda dealership, it has worked extremely well and continues to do so. It has been very cheap to maintain and cheap on gas with its 4 cylinders.
It has been absolutely reliable.
It has NO rust, the paint has held up well in rain and heat.
The interior looks new! I have had only one little tear in my vinyl seat, quickly fixed.
The heater is fantastic, I'm warm is seconds even in our cold Canadian climate.
Windows are a little stiff, but work fine.
This little truck is very comfortable for a person and passenger under 6 feet.
Visibility is excellent, even with a camper on the back.
My older, wooden, camper is easily carried, although gas cost is higher and I added suspension leaves.
Handling is excellent, even with the camper, I can pass easily under 100 kilometers/hour.
I absolutely LOVE this little truck, the only thing I should have done was get an extended cab as I am a pack rat, but oh well...
