"Very good bargain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing has "gone" wrong.. but it did need new tires, brakes, muffler, paint job, bumper, air filter, fuel filter and a oil change.

Shampooed the carpets and vavvoooom... nice little pickup truck.

For as many Km's it has gone through it is in really well interior condition and the outside has next to nothing rust.

The pretty sky blue paint is faded a bit which a homemade paintjob can fix.

Make a new heavy duty bumper... but not too "heavy" haha, doesn't workout for the truck.

Did the muffler, brakes and changed the filters myself with guidance from my Father.

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap... especially with 14' rim tires... 35 bucks a piece? CHEAP!

The man who sold me the truck said the motor was "weak".. but it runs pretty nice considering the kms.

50-60 bucks to fill the tank... it's a lot but it lasts even longer! Well it does for me because I taker easy on my truck.. ahaha...

$600 to purchase the truck, not bad investment if I do say so myself.

General comments?

Very nice pickup if you find one in good condition. Good first vehicle... not a get up and go vehicle... a putt putt I guess you can say.

Glad you love your truck! Here are some things I have learned along the years...

I'm getting ready to do some service work on mine before it gets sold. (water pump and timing belt) I have a hand me down bought from a company for $300. It has a heavy duty rear suspension, leaks galore, and gets 28-29 mpg consistently... (with a major redneck exhaust...)

As advised in other posts, stick to 5w30 weight oils.

If you have a cold weather idle problem, as I did, don't use the choke and disconnect it from use as suggested in another post. It will warm up and idle soon enough.

Make sure all water heater hoses running around under and near the Carb and intake manifold are in good shape or you can lose an engine fast to lost coolant. (those small ones hard to see and reach!) been there, got the badge :(

Wrecking yards are wonderful sources for parts; assuming you can find one with b2000/2200's sitting in them in usable shape...

If you keep it absolutely stock, find a quality Mazda tech for tough problems, other wise, replacing the radiator, battery, starter, alternator, belts etc. are doable for the back yard mechanic. It doesn't take a whole lot to keep one fairly tuned and running happy.

Mine needs an exhaust overhaul and probably brakes; some of which I could do and some I would outsource to a shop. My truck has 180,000 miles of hard life and still manages to keep going. It has its quirks, but is a great value with some patience. p.s. have a Chilton's or Haynes manual for reference... It too can be a vast resource used with patience. Like this posting site... :) It's been a help to me!
