1988 Mazda B2200 Regualr cab long box review from North America
"An adequate light pick-up"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
-Engine burned oil in the crank-case.
-Starter blew 2 times.
-Alternator blew 2 times.
-Carburetor ices causing car to stall.
-Transmission blew a $5 bearing at 180000kms and had to be pulled to replace it.
-Tailgate handle broke so I had to prise the tailgate open with a screwdriver.
General comments?
This truck has had nearly every moving part replaced over a period of 4 years. That said the parts were cheap.
It guzzles gas, My mazda 4-cyl. gets the same gas mileage as a Ford F150 with a V-8 and a rebuilt carb is over $500.
The interior is spartan, but somewhat comfortable if only for the driver. I'm 6'2 and it fits me, but I don't think it would comfortably fit anyone taller.
If you want performance look elsewhere. The 2.2L is underpowered and with a load it struggles up hills.
If you can afford it go for a Toyota or an S-10, something with better reliability or power.
