1999 Mazda Demio review from Portugal

I traded my Fiat Punto 16v (80hp) from the year 2000 for this Mazda Demio 1.3 from the year 1999 in a dealer, and he also gave me 2 years of warranty.

The car had 76000 kms, it was like new. I made this trade because I was tired of my faulty Punto and wanted a reliable brand and car.

My first thoughts were, this car is kind of ugly, and certainly will be very slow, but I will make the trade to pass it to my wife who was taking her license, but I was wrong, the car is not so slow (OK compared to similar engines), I don't notice too much difference compared to the Punto, and other cars that I have had.

Also the Demio has 2 airbags, sun roof, ABS, 4 electric windows, alloy wheels, etc... OK the interior is ugly and the plastics look cheap, the seats are not very comfortable until you get used to them, at first it looks unstable, but it isn't believe me, I make hard turns and it is very responsive and stick to the road, it drives like a charm.

I would make this trade again, and would choose this car compared to similar cars. The looks are something personal, so I can't say that it is good looking or bad looking.

This is not a racing car, but compared to other cars with similar hp, it is very good. On highways it gets to 160/170 kmh very easily straight, and I've reached a lot of times with the pointer at the end of the counter where there are no more numbers (after 180kmh)...

I would recommend this car, and would buy one again. I will pass it to my wife and I'll buy another Mazda for me.
