"Too much of a liability"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This car passed a regular safety inspection before purchase in 2002. Two months after purchase I had to replace the following:

Transmission.

Clutch.

Distributer and all wiring back to the

main board which were fried.

The water pump.

$300.00 oxygen sensor.

Most recently due to regular maintenance I have replaced:

The muffler.

Four tires.

Spark plugs.

General comments?

This car handles very well and has the sporty look that I love.

However I would recommend that no one, anywhere at anytime in any circumstances purchase a MX-3. The parts are extremely expensive and as noted previously it tends to break down A LOT.

On a positive note, this 10 year old car hasn't show the slightest sign of rust.

I don't believe that your statment about mx3's is right! I myself bought a 1994 mazda mx3 (v6) and I don't have any problems with it so far. I believe it all depends on your luck.

Was it a automatic? Those transmissions are known to brake down quick.

I love my mx3, it's a 1993 auto. I just wish it had more start up speed. Any suggestions?

I have a 94 mx3. I have had every problem as you, plus more. it seems as though people have had better luck with the v6 models. I as-well would recomend that no person buy this car. as I write this I have my mx3 on a lift trying to fix my newest slew of problems.

I've had my 1992 MX3 V6 for four years, which is the longest I've ever kept a car. I've covered over 60,000 miles in that time and it's never failed to start and has been 100% reliable. I guess you need to buy one that has been looked after or you could have trouble, especially as the spares can be expensive. I've been lucky and not needed any.

I am not a car expert, but I'm guessing it was either you luck with that car, Or possibly the owner before you didn't maintain it very well. I'm 16, And I got my MX3 4 My B-Day and I have not had a single problem with it at all. And as for the comment from the guy who said maybe it was because of it being automatic, mine just so happens to be auto, and has not been replaced once, and has 128,000 clicks on it.

Guess its the luck of the draw?

My wife bought an mx3 and the first thing I had to do was replace the motor. I got a good deal on a new motor with low miles and I still have problems especially with the tranny and to top it off someone broke in and stole my speakers my maf sensor and plug wires. to my surprise replacement parts are expensive and hard to find for the four cylinder. I DO NOT recommend the mx3 with the 1.6L to anyone.

When I bought my mx3, I had to replace the transmission, this was 2 years ago. I have just now began to hear some slight noise from the motor, but not every-time I drive it. However; it has held up well with over 100,000 miles. The paint is still in great condition, it is a beautiful car. Gets great gas mileage.

I have 93 mx3 GS model replaced the distributor and now I

have a broken front coil spring, that I will repair. The

car has a 100k on it, but other than these two problems I would say I have a good car. Parts are still costly even after 13 years.

I believe there was a recall or something with the front coil spring, so check with the dealership. You may be eligible for a free one. (I think they had a lifetime transferable warranty on the recall)

I have owned my mx-3 for two years.. It's a manual 94 with over 200000 kms... The only thing I would complain about would be a couple spots of rust that were there before I bought it...

I bought a 94 Mx3 (4 cylinder) in January of 2007 less than a month after having I had to replace the transmission because the second gear and overdrive went out and just got it out of the shop a couple weeks ago and now the idler is off and need to be replaced.

I am 17 years old . I work at an Auto Auction up at Howard City, I found a 1994 Mazda MX3 and am intersted in buying it. But After reading some of the comments I am a little hesitant about buying it because its got the 2.0L engine in it what should I do or who should I talk to?

For those of you who have had transmission trouble... has anyone had to replace/repair/rebuild the standard 5-speed transmission on the 94 mx3 or are those all automatics?

My girl friend and I have a 94 mx3 autotrans and the problem I have with mine the most is the alternator belt it throws them every few months. it used to throw them every month. but recently I have gotten a bigger problem. my front seals leaking and I think my rear seal is leaking, but I'm also having trouble with my transmission under 1500 rpms it will chock and try to die. and pumping the gas only helps most of the time. I also have a short in the wireing someware, but I can't see a problem anyware. and the short made the radio stop working and then started working a month later for no reason. can anyone tell me if they have had this problem before or if you could help me please message me a kazaiakuma@yahoo.com.
