1988 Mazda MX6 GT review from North America
"A good fun, economical performance vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear quarter panels have been rusting badly in last 2 years.
Hood leading edge rusted and replaced at 120000 km.
Parking brake cable seized in its sleeve twice due to road spray.
Driver's seat tilt mechanism pin sheared.
Exhaust system aft of the converter has been replaced 3 times.
General comments?
A fun car to drive, especially with manual transmission.
Good pick-up, especially when the revs are above 3000.
The last of the real MX6's with an engine and transmission that loves to be worked.
Punch the throttle to 6000rpm in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and it takes off like a scalded rabbit.
You have to drive this car and not sit back and be a passenger. It needs to be kept pointing in the correct direction.
