1991 Mazda RX7 review from North America

What things have gone wrong with the car?

27 kms after purchase, motor blew out rear rotor apex seal.

Second motor (used) blew 4600kms after professional install.

Third motor (brand new crate 13b) runs tight, but leaking. Rear crankshaft seal, oil pan, injection lines for oil to lube apexes are also leaking.

Some kinda of road tracking problem, probably due to rear tow steer bushings worn.

6 port injectors do not work, nor have they ever worked.

Always floods and lacks power.

General comments?

This car is known for its performance, but that's provided it runs. You can't shut it off in "cold cycle" or it floods itself, you then have to jump through a hoop if you want it to start again.

Weak/inferior materials seal these engines. They never last long (more than 200 000kms).

The amount of fuel/oil/general maintenance that these cars require is obscene, and makes it impractical as a daily driver for most people.

These cars have a very poor resale value.

The ride is far too stiff even for a sports car.

It corners well, but it tracks the grounds imperfections, thus making it handle like chuckwagon with a rocket on it.

In 38000 kms I went through three motors, numerous sensors and gallons of oil, the car ruined my driveway with oil stains and it handles and rides worse then my Num's Neon!

It's got some revs, but no torque really, considering how much fuel it uses for such little power.

Horrible gas mileage.

Looks nice, but all that glitters is not gold.
