1982 Mazda RX7 SII review from Australia and New Zealand
"Fast, good looks, give yourself 6 months shopping time to find a good one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
- Auto transmission went about three months after I bought it. $900 repair bill.
- Carby went about 2 months later costing a further $300.
- Slight crack in the vent holes on the dash, apart from that, all original interior.
General comments?
It's been a good car in terms of performance, very fast for its age, although I don't treat the new auto very well.
The great handling backflips on wet roads, even with good tyres, the light weight of the back-end of the car means you have to drive MUCH more slowly.
Beware of buying one with a bodykit. I bought one for the convenience of having the car already finished. If bodykits have been on for many years, they tend to make water collect in strange places, causing rust in unusual areas. Also, RX-7s are already low... if you don't like taking speed humps at 2kmph, then don't have a front spoiler attached!!
The interior is comfy for the driver and passenger. The back seats are a joke.
Electrics have been overall good for the age. Lights all work, sometimes high-beam is tempremental, and the back de-mister doesn't work.
