"It's a lot of bang for the buck"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

So far I've had the car for two three months and it's a great car I Love it the only things that have gone wrong with it is that it eats power steering fluid like its going out of style and its hard not to drive fast. So far nothings blown everythings great I picked it up for $1300 and put about $700 in to it and it hasn't let me down yet.

General comments?

This car is great the rotor 2 rotor motor is one of a kind and its great there should be more rotor 2 rotor motors on the road because they are great reliable motors.

I do like rotary motors too, but who told you that they are reliable. No they're not. Many problems occur on these motors. These type of motors are not for every day driving, its for race only. My brother once had one, it overheated, needed a lot of oil and goes 10 mpg. Bad mileage. I still like it because even though many problems are on it, it's is one of the the fastest sport car.

I have the same exact car, the motor has lasted over 265,000 and still running strong. I'm the third owner and since I got it I have had overheating problems, but other than that I've taken a lot of weight to make lighter for drifting, and drags.

But my gas mileage is 18mpg city, and 26mpg fwy so I think I have really good mileage, although I am running 3inch dual exhaust, Weapon R ram intake.

Hey guys,

I've owned an rx7 for 3 years and its been a fantastic car. the rotary engine is superb. I drive my car every day including long trips away and its never broken down, flooded or overheated. I think there is a a lot of bad rap about rotaries, mostly by people how have never owned one.

Well, I've owned an 86 and 87, both of which suffered from overheating (along with a slew of other engine problems).

There is a reason why Mazda totally re-did the rotary engine for the RX-8 and why it never landed in the Miata. Too many problems.

The only reason why people claim to have problems with their rotary engine is because they don't know anything about them and rely on other peoples sources of information. If you own a rotary you should know how they work and the facts about them. The will not overheat as long as you maintain the components of the cooling system... yes they do tend to run up to twice as hot as a normal piston engine... bet lots of rotary owners didn't know that. Just take care of your rotary motor and it will be the best thing you ever have owned! They are reliable, great for everyday driving and racing. Just make sure you are educated on all the components and operation of the engine and you will be fine!

My 86 RX7 gets 22+ mpg on the freeway, uses minimal oil, does not ever flood, and loves to run at 7800 rpm all day long.. it runs hot, but rarely overheats.

I have an 86 GXL, and I absolutely love it. The rotary engine is an amazing piece of machinery, but they will have problems if not properly maintained. An example- flooding. One time I started my car to move it into the garage and it flooded. This is because you have to let the engine warm up once you start it, or the oil seal will wash away and you'll have to fill the engine with ATF to start it again.

Another small problem is that electrical components don't last forever. Mine is 22 years old, so that's expectable. I've had to fix my wiper motor twice, but the electric windows, electric sunroof, pop-up lights have always worked fine.

All in all, the RX7 is an amazing car. Take one down a windy road and you'll see what I mean.

Hey guys OK, here's the deal... I have owned 9 different 1st gen RX7's (79-85)... and 4 2nd gen RX7's (86-92). And guys, let me tell you rotor-motors are awesome... nothing else like it. In the world!!! Perpetual motion is the key :} Boy do these lil motors spin!! Show me an N/A piston motor, that is a 1.3l with 160hp. The other guys are right, "take care of your wankel and it

will take care of you" ;)
