hold on when your flying around turns.
Does require more maintenance than your average car.
Actually, this guy was complimenting the car's handling.
He was simply listing its electrical faults.
I would like to know, in what way it requires more maintenance than the average car?
Besides the usual oil change intrvals, a rotary motor requires periodic oil level checks. the rotary motor has to have oil injected into the combustion chamber for chamber lubrication, so there will be a oil consumption of around one quart of oil in between oil changes.
I'm glad someone had a good experience with an RX-7. Mine was slower than my non-turbo Dodge Omni, Rattled from one end to the other, leaked oil, was very hard to start and handled with all the sportiness of a '79 Pinto. It was the second slowest car I ever owned. The slowest was an '81 Escort. How these things ever could have been called "sports" cars is beyond me.
My RX-7 is totally stock, and is just now showing signs of aging and it's an 87.
The car has been very reliable, but then again it only has 98k miles on it.
The acceleration has a strange problem that just developed in the last year. As the car warms up (15 minutes after starting and driving), if you give it all it's got, it completely falls on its face. When it gets to 3000 rpm, it feels like you take your foot off the gas for a full second, causing a massive buck, and it will do this in all gears except for 4th and 5th.
This problem's cause has me baffled, because I have replaced nearly all the fuel injection system parts except the lines themselves. AKA injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump, and even the spark plugs and cleaned the rotors after I was completely stumped.
Other than that, the flip up light motors have gone out once, the rear defroster strips don't work, and drivers side door handle has broken (not come unhooked actually broken), and finally windshield motors gone out once. But for being 20+ years old, those minor repairs could be expected.
The clutch needed to be replaced once, but I think it was my fault, considering that I learned how to drive a manual on it.
I have a FC3S or better known as the 87 Mazda RX-7. I love my car it can beat every V6 car that challenged me, even the turbo charged vehicles and that's a big feat considering my 13b is only N/A. no major mods...yet. Not to mention when racing a 'vette it can hold its own and even make 'vette owners sweat. Granted it does have the oil leak however i'm about to have one of my mechanics looking into installing a 3mm apex seal to remedy that little problem. however ikm still a little hesitant because im considering boosting my hp up ten fold. so now I don't know whether to (a) get a 20B-RE engine swap or (b) just get 2 twin turbos.
There is no way you are making vette owners sweat with your n/a RX-7, trust me. And the only V6 an n/a RX7 can beat is like a Grand Am.
I own an s5 FC and it's a streetported engine with suspension mods and an exhaust. It's in great condition, with only needing a new paint job because of a few scratches here and there.
My engine puts out as much power as it can, and still no way in hell can make a vette owner sweat.
