I haven't had too many problems at all.
The clock in the dash goes on and off as it pleases.
The cold start flooding got me once and it took me an hour to get it going. It was quite a smoke show when it fired up.
I love my car! I can't say it is perfect for me yet, but next year when the new turbo goes in, and that little rocket of a motor is spinning out 500hp and the rich guys with the Vipers know to look out for me in their mirrors, then it will be perfect. I'm glad so few are really capable of knowing how great a car can be. It makes me love mine ten fold.
ps. It's too bad the speedo only goes to 160mph, cause I got it there and I didn't even use the nitrous oxide.
Good review - I know what you mean about how few people know about this car - expensive to maintain but fast as hell.
500 HP??? Man, you must've done some mods. What size fuel injectors did you add? Did you need an additional fuel controller? What about the fuel pump? Intercooler? Turbo? What size NOS do you have? How much did it cost to street port that motor and drop 3mm apex seals into it? I bet those rich guys in their Vipers and Vettes are pretty scared.
You don't need a turbo for nitrous...
I've seen some drag RX7's putting out near 500hp, and I'm talking about a 1983 Mazda RX7 13b with carbys, but its diet of nitromethane fuel would of helped, and the 16000rpm.
The more fuel a car can burn the more potential power, the trick is not letting it go up in smoke and putting that power to the wheels. Rotary engines are good at doing that.
As for NOS, it can be used in any car, turbo or NA.
For example, a 993cc Daihastu with a DOHC turbo head and pistons, but no turbo, oversized injectors, a thinner head gasket to increase compression and direct port injection of NOS, as well as a diet of Avgas, that translates to a car that puts out 300bhp.
Yes 1990 rx7 will hardly flood due to better ecu compare to the older ones. And yes my 90 rx7 turbo does go 145-155mph, but if you go pass 160 then you sure have very good alignment. Also if you go 550 prim and 1600 second fuel with t67 turbo and front intercooler like I did? Then you will dyno at about 425 to the wheels... and I run 11.2 @1/4 mile. And no that is with no NOS at all, with all the viper, vettes and the stupid mustangs sure they maybe able to match that time, but they will never, never, and I say never be able to take any import on turns baby. My point is DOMESTIC MUSCLE CAR sucks and just complete garbage.
Yeah... I had a little bit of a problem with an 86+ turbo.
I own a few cars, Two of my favorites are a mint and modded
84 anniversary nissan turbo 300zx the other is the one I was driving a 2001 chev zo6 also silver in color. anyhow I had just finished spanking a late model cobra and this wheezy red rotary pulls up beside me, we take it up to 120 mph before traffic gets rough, all the while he did not beat me, but he did keep up with me. To say the least I was pleasantly surprised. My old z car regularly "surprises" many a car especially vettes,. I gave that kid the thumbs up Cause I know how he felt.

Dear ladies and gentlemen RX7 Owners/Drivers.
There the few, the proud, and not only Marines. who drive and appreciate the RX7, and as one, Marine and RX7 driver/owner, I can only extend my respect and gratitude to you who love this kind of refined power and handling a car like this can offer. Semper Fidelis, and keep them rotors spinning.
Maniak.
I like the car as well, had 2 NA, 1 white, 1 blue, and 1 black on black Turbo.
I think it's the best handling car period for corners.
American, japanese, gas guzzler, fuel miser, whatever, each to their own.
If you like it and think it's so great, then saying so should suffice. You obviously subconsciously think it's not the best because you're not happy with what you're blessed with."Some", not all posters here.
I even tend to prefer Japanese cars, but would never disrespect someone for liking an American car, which I also like very much.
I'm about 65% for Japanese cars and 35% for American.
I would not own German, Italian, Russian, etc. Just not interested at all. There is a lot to learn from each car, unless you prefer to just pay someone that might be ripping you off and doing lousy work. But again... each to their own.
Taking trash about other cars makes me wonder if you are angry about overspending to impress with your own???
RX7's are the best 2 seater sports cars ever. Nothing really comes close.
