The rx7 has a character all its own. when cruising at 45mph in 5th gear is is so smooth I think to myself if this engine were in a small sedan I would love to take long trips in such a car. As it stands the rx7 of mine has a jarring, unforgiving ride when hitting any kind of road imperfection. True it handles very well and I have never pushed it to the edge. If it had better brakes and power steering along with a better ride I would never sell this car. I am sure the after market and the much taunted limited slip rear end of later gslse model would be a welcome addition. As for the cold start problem I have figured out how to start it in the coldest of weather.Don't choke it at all at first. First pump the gas pedal 3 or four times. remember no choke. It will run for a few seconds on the fuel air mixture provided. Do it a few more times. The engine will die. Expect this! After doing this a few times repeat, but now you choose to start a new step. No choke yet, but hold your hand on the choke knob, key off pump the gas 3 or 4 times run starter and as soon as the engine fires, pull choke out all the way as it fires and voila. I nearly wore out my starter till I figured out this method. It works every time. Never takes more than three tries on the final step for me yet and the weather has been sub freezing for over 2 months. This method always worked on my leaned out suzuki motorcycle and I think it prevents flooding the engine with an overly rich mixture.
Oh yes I like the rx7 but I am 51 and want something roomier. Its only a hobby car.
I just acquired a 1984 RX-7 GS. Is it normal for it to rev high in the lower gears?
