1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 190E review from Singapore
"Modern classic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front shocks had to be replaced at 150,000.
At 153,000 oil leaks from the engine block - gaskets changed (might be switch to synthetic oil).
At 155000km the aircon compressor shorted - had to change the compressor, relay and temperature sensor.
General comments?
Well built - solid construction. No creaks or other noises. Quality of the interior plastics is excellent. MB-tex seats like new. Cabin a bit smallish.
For a 2.0L model, adequate power and torque for city driving - avoid the 1.8 as it is underpowered. Rear wheel drive and multlink suspension give the car excellent handling characteristics.
For HiFi nuts - the small interior space and sealed boot mean limited audio options.

| Great promise. Great design. Well put together. So why was it not reliable? An expensive mistake |
