1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 E review from North America
"Classic luxury for compact price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rattling noise from drivers front suspension.
Door panels have started to separate (armrests).
General comments?
We recently bought this car for my wife. Even with 150K miles and 1989 manufacture year, this vehicle remains a surprisingly modern looking vehicle with unmatched comfort and driving feel second to no other vehicle I have ever owned. The interior is very plush, with seats that are different than the norm, yet very comfortable, even on long trips. Gas mileage is very good, even with the 2.6 motor. The exterior styling is very modern while remaining classic MB. We get comments on the car all the time, and people are surprised to learn that it is almost 15 years old. This is top of the line comfort for compact car cost. If you have the chance to buy one, take it and run! Just make sure that the car has been taken care of. Because this is the 'cheap' Mercedes, there are a few that have been abused. They are good cars, so it is not obvious when one has not been taken care of. Mercedes will easily run to 300K miles if taken care of.
