1999 Mercedes-Benz A-Class 160 elegance review from UK and Ireland
"A short term delight a long term nightmare"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Suspension failed at 40,000 miles.
Gearbox failed at 42,000 miles.
General comments?
I was delighted when I first acquired this car. It combines all the features of a small car with the power of a big car.
The ride is smooth, the engine is quiet yet responsive, and it's a perfect size for squeezing in to smaller parking spots.
Until two weeks ago, despite the expensive failure of the suspension, I
couldn't imagine ever wanting another car.
However, The gearbox has failed after 42,000 miles. The dealership cost to fix it is the same price as purchasing another A Class of the same age and specification.
All I can say to drivers out there - be very afraid.
