2007 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C280 4 Matic Elegance review from North America

"High Priced Tire Eater"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Flat tire 9000 KM.

Light bulb burnout in drivers' sunshade mirror at 18,000 KM.

Change 3 remaining tires at 20,000 KM because of bubbles forming on sidewall.

Repaired one mag at 20,000 KM.

New bubbles forming on sidewall at 20,000 KM.

Gas mileage that manufacturer states is misleadingly low.

General comments?

It's a tire eater. I have 225/45R17 XL Michelin Alpin PA2 Winter tires. Because of the low profile on the tires, every time you hit a pothole you will get bubbles forming on the sidewall. If you hit a really big one, you will also scratch/damage the wheel. Mercedes does not offer 17 inch black winter rims so I'm slowly destroying my wheels. They only offer steel rims up to 16 inches. I have no idea why Mercedes would not make any Winter Steel Rims for 17 inch and bigger. I know they're ugly but it's better than destroying your tires and wheels.

Montreal's roads are terrible year round and they have plenty of potholes. If you live in a climate that does not have potholes, I would highly recommend this vehicle. The driving is smooth and the handling is exceptional.

It's convenient that oil changes are every 20,000 KM but the cost is terrible. 350 US$ to get an oil and filter change and someone to measure the windshield washer fluid level is not what I was expecting from Mercedes.
