Front end parts at 90000
Belt broke unexpectedly at 120000.
A far cry from the older diesel Mercedes (220D and 240D) in performance. This car will not only cruise, but will get to speed quite impressively for a 2.5L diesel.
The car retains the high levels of reliability, longevity, dependability and economy of its older siblings, but is far more quiet and comfortable.
This is an excellent long distance touring car. Range on a tank of fuel is over 500 miles. Creature comforts are well designed and function perfectly.
My only regret it that I can't buy a brand new one. Maybe someday again they will be available in the US.
I believe you can now -- Mercedes from what I know, is or will be selling the E-class with a diesel again, possibly an E270 CDI.
Prey this be true. It probably is not. There was a badly run test whose results were misrepresented, that stated that diesel exhaust causes cancer. Although this was based on truck emmisions, OPEC will use it to try to get diesel banned from passenger cars.
However, were this true, I may actually decide to abandon my 1984 300D. It is a good car, and I love it dearly, but once around a 6 digit odometer is a bit more than prudent. The W123 makes the 124 seem flimsy in a lot of ways, but at over a million miles, Benny is beginning to rattle. No complaints though. I sure got my money's worth. I hope this new E-class is better than that PO'S W210. Long Live the Three-Pointed Star!!
