1990 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 260E from UK and Ireland - Comments

"26k of car available at giveaway prices!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Flat battery due to rear courtesy light being left on!

First sign of rust (1cm diameter at corner of rear number plate).

Side of cloth drivers seat wearing due to abrasion upon entry/exit from car.

General comments?

This car has been a dream. It was bought 2nd hand after I handed back a 1 year old C180 Esprit company car. Use of my parents well maintained Ford Escort convinced me to stick with Benz.

Dealer service history is important when selling on, for proof of upkeep. Mine as maintained by MBZ until the last 2 when cost outweighed benefit (generally around £500 a time).

Excellent spec included full electrics, but no air con, or leather seats.

This car never let me down and has satisfied the needs of a growing family of 4.

Paintwork remains excellent and only wife's ego prompted the move to a newer version.

Superb review.

These cars, especially the earlier models, are some of the best Mercedes ever produced not to mention some of the best cars ever produced by any manufacturer.

And now that Mercedes has chosen mediocrity over quality, these cars are even more desirable.

I still find it funny that an upscale brand like Mercedes didn't offer air conditioning on every model. Cloth I can see.

My mercedes benz 260e 124-hull construction 2.6l 1990model

150hp.

Automatic transmission

automatic air-condition.

Fuel consumption is 10.9ltr/100km.. quite high : (.. and that is the lowest what I can do. first it took like 12.8-15.7ltr/100km.

I've changed fuel filters, lambda air units, air filtters, spark plugs.. etc etc.

Car is superb on the road, low noise and steady to drive acceleration is good also 80km/h to 160kmh within 100m.

In 200kmh car is still balanced and flying nicely :).. (i hate those speed limits on Finland.. max 120kmh)

Brakes are good, even thou there are only 150hp the car really fires up when pressing the spoon down, gear shiftings sometimes move to hasty to the next gear. I would prefer manual gear if you really want to spice up the speed in the highway.
