2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML270CDI review from UK and Ireland
"Poor build quality and poor service"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alarm Going off for no reason after the 5th try the dealer found it was a problem with the windscreen.
Drivers seat creaking replaced twice.
Heater Controls failed, had to be replaced.
Rear View Mirror replaced.
Accelerator Peddle replaced after sticking on Motorway.
Center Console creaked constantly and had to be secured twice.
Whole dash was removed twice to try and find a creaking noise, each time more insulation was put in. Finally the windscreen was taken out and part of the frame ground down where it was rubbing against the glass. I was advised this was a common fault, why it was a common fault on the second attempt and not the first I am not sure.
The car developed a loud whistle from the dash when starting from cold that would last 5-10 minutes. A part was replaced in the aircon system and it was cured for a week and to date still has the problem.
Parking sensors had to be replaced on two occasions both front and rear (not sure if it was the same ones) At 70mph on a motorway if you braked the parking sensors would sound and the lights come on. The first ones that were replaced were not painted properly so after washing the car a few times the paint came off.
Most faults seem to be related to build quality which is generally poor.
Dealer service is also very poor and seems much worse since Mercedes Benz took over all the Dealers in the London Region.
General comments?
The worst car I have ever owned, having had 7 Mercedes the experience of this one has put me off, I don't think I will ever buy another one.
