1993 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 400 SEL review from North America

I bought this car pre owned with low miles. There are a few things I need to have done to make it perfect. I need the sun roof adjusted so that it closes flush. As of now, it is 1mm or so off, and I have to bump the switch to get it perfect. Not a big deal, but I will get it fixed, and... let's see..

The right rear window is slow and needs to be serviced. Sometimes it needs help going up or it will reverse and row itself back down.

The safety feature kicks in thinking some child has a hand or head in the window, so it will want to go back down unless you help it. I may be able to spray some silicone into the rails and fix that. I may try that. But.. Those were problems I knew about when I bought the car and I will have them fixed here soon. Not a big deal...

My Car is the 1993 W140 400SEL. It has the 4.2 liter V8 and is a W140 chassis. This is the finest car I have ever owned or driven.

I have seen those that attempt to compare this car to Lexus. I have the LS430 Lexus and I can tell you, there is no comparison. Do not get me wrong, the Lexus LS430 is a great little car. But it cannot compare to this much larger, much roomier, much safer Mercedes W140 S Class. There just is no comparison.

You cannot compare this car to any other. It is in a superior class of its own. This car is so nice I just cannot get over it. It has every thing a driver and passenger could want and more. It is powerful, super quiet, eerily quiet... It is so quiet you will be amazed, shocked even. This causes problems with me. I will be taking my time going down the road and then gaze down at my speedo to see that I am approaching triple digits. This is my only concern. You really have no idea how powerful and how fast this car is because the sensation of speed is not registered inside this car. You are unaware that you are approaching jet aircraft take off speeds. Watch out!!!

This car is amazing. This car will stop on a Dime, handles great, German get out of my way good looks, and the seats... Well.. You are well... I am not sure how to put it.. The seats and the way they make you feel when sitting in them is well... They fit you. I mean.. They are so comfortable it is amazing. I was told they were designed by an orthopedic doctor. I can believe it.

The price of admission for this S Class Mercedes is not cheap, but if you can afford it, you will be rewarded. It is first rate!! Top shelf!!

Make sure when you get one, that if it ever needs any attention, take it to Mercedes. Do not take this car to Quicky Lube to have the oil changed or new shocks or new brakes installed. If you do, you are asking for trouble. The W140 is no longer made. From what I can tell, it is the largest Mercedes made. It is wonderful. Just wonderful. Drive one. You will see.. And you will also enjoy the ride...
