1989 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 560 SEL review from North America
"The finest motor car I have ever had"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Leveling pump leaked. Mercede's seal kit is worse than useless since it does not contain the two seals you most need. Got them from a local gasket manufacturer and was able to repair the system for under $300 rather than replacing it for $1200.
General comments?
The big engine gives plenty of power and goes 75 mph with cruise control under 2,500 rpm.
Highway mileage ranges between 20-22 mpg at 70 mph avg.
Carries four people in absolute luxury and can carry five comfortably on a road trip.
Requires very little maintenance, and with the new high output spark plugs burns regular unleaded without knocking.
I own a 77 450SEL, 83 280SL, 88 300SE and this one - which is my favorite.
