2001 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S600 Pullman review from UK and Ireland

"The Best Car In The World. Ever. For-ever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The DVD player kept skipping in the back, dealer replaced the unit and it has been perfect.

General comments?

Extremely fast, to say it has to carry so much weight behind it. I got it de-restricted before I went on a business trip to Germany, and got just under 170MPH on the Autobahn! Even at that speed it was exceptionally quiet. Put your foot down in any gear and it will pull right upto the red-line! The engine spun at about 5700RPM at 170MPH.

My previous car was the S600 LWB, and I needed a Pullman to carry more business colleagues in the back. This seats 4 in the back, and two in the front - total of 6. Drivers cabin isn't as spacious as the ordinary S-Class, but there is still (a lot) more than enough room.

DVD, Fridge, Individual Air-Con, Glass Partion, Driver Intercom, Curtains (Expensive Ones!), Sat-Nav, TV with Teletext and smart looking Alloys are some of the standard features.

However, as it is around 20 feet long, you need to be careful on country roads not to take the back end out going round left hand bends. My chauffer has almost wiped the back end out many times!

You can easily have meetings in the back off the Pullman, although it can be a bit cramped if you have the 'larger' business man on board!

Fuel Economy is fantastic for such a large vehicle - we get around 30MPG on a long trip - with the standard cylinder shut-down the engine spins at just under 1500 RPM at 70MPH.

Insurance group 20 is the only let down, but what do you expect from a vehicle like this?

Ultra-reliable. Refuses not-to start even in freezing conditions!

I paid £170,000 for this car, which some might say is sad, as I never drive it, but it is all down to personal preference. This car full-fills my needs, so that's why I have bought it.

I would never own anything other than a Mercedes S-Class now.
