1991 Mercedes-Benz SL 560SL review from North America
"A great high performance, luxury, sports car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The engine needed a rebuilding at around 100,000 miles, but that is completely normal for any car.
The seats needed to be re-covered once the car turned 13 years old, which is very normal as well.
The same thing goes for the wooden trimming. It began to crack at around 10-15 years of age, and it, too will need to be replaced.
General comments?
The car is a very very fast car. The 5.6L V8 engine could not be more powerful, and I am very pleased with it.
Because it is so big, though, it does drink gasoline, and I am only able to get around 20mph. Do to this, Mercedes installed a nice little guage for your fuel economy, that sqhowed you how economically you were driving.
For a high performance sports car, it is exceptionally comfortable, and to say that it handles like it is on rails is such an understatment.
