Gear box has failed.
Brakes have failed.
Petrol tank problems.
I find it very poor and hard to believe, that a van with 35,000 miles on the clock has to be written off due to a failed gear box which started to fail at about 15,000 miles. Also to speak to Mercedes and to be told that they don't care, and that it is your problem is unbelievable, they are supposed to be the best, don't think so!
I have a 1998 van which has had two gearboxes with only 112000 miles on the van and now I need a box, Cannot get one from breakers looks like I will have too throw this van away,it's a shame I have aways brought Mercedes, but not any more...
Yes that's why that Vito van thing isn't sold in the USA. I never even heard of that vehicle before until now on this website. People in the USA absolutely won't tolerate messed up cars that break (especially mercedes), (even though they drive cars that get low mileage and drive them harder to get even less mileage and then complain about fuel prices when they could be driving a diesel, sad isn't it). My Mercedes 1985 190D 4cyl diesel has at least 500,000 miles on the engine. The only time we have to ever work on it is when the filters or oil gets old and then replace.

That's the funniest thing I've read on this site, thanks for the laugh!

I just wanted any new car buyers that are looking for a diesel to ask a few questions that the dealers will try to avoid. 1 How much for an oil change? (my 03 jetta is $90.00 cdn) 2 How much for pump/camshaft belt alignment? (the cold canadian winters require this to be done religiously as the oem suggests) 3 Is this a fair weather car or will it keep us warm at -40 c (my 03 jetta won't keep the windows clear past -20 c) 4 Should I start saving now for the 90,000km belt replacement? (ouch @ $900.00 cdn) 5 does the intake and combustion chamber always need to be disassembled to be cleaned before 100,000km? (most around here do)
60 to68 mpg is great, but the maint. cost was not disclosed or expected. I'm still delighted with the car!!!
