Needs a new steering box.
Leaks during heavy rain.
I wish someone had an answer
for me about the known
water leak problem with
this 81 body style.
I was told by a body shop
that both fenders need to come off and perform some
serious welding so that water won't get into the
cabin.
Water leaks are usually due too bad windshield or rear glass rubber seals. Replace them if the rubber looks old or is hard. The rubber should be pliable.

I had a water come into the passenger side floor board of my 1980 300D and discovered that one of the round rubber plugs that is in the wheel well was missing. I replaced it for just a few dollars and it eliminated the leak.

Hi!
Another source of water leaks could be in water drains stuffed with leafs and dirt. Check the drains which are located where the hood latch/spring is located. These holes are too small.
Bye.
I had a problem with wet floorboards in the back seat, when it rained. I discovered I had rust holes in the floorboard, that I could put my fist through.
You've probably already solved your leakage problem by now, but in case you have not: our sunroof drains were clogged when we got ours and we had them cleaned at little expense and never had another drop of water inside the car.
